We waited a long time for the trailer for “Ad Astra – To the Stars”, because until recently we assumed that it would be released in theaters in May of this year. This was later canceled, but at least here is the first preview:
When we put together a list of the 100 movies at the end of 2018 that we look forward to the most this year, we placed “Ad Astra – To the Stars” at No. 18. At the time, however, we still assumed that we wouldn’t have to wait that long and that James Gray’s sci-fi thriller (“The Sunken City Z”) will hit theaters on May 23, 2019. But when we still hadn’t seen a trailer shortly before the theatrical release, it was already clear:
That will no longer work, the theatrical release of the 20th Century Fox production was postponed, presumably due to the Disney group’s takeover of the studio. And so it happened, while “Ad Astra” will be released nationally on September 19, 2019. But at least now there is the long awaited trailer that you can see in German above and in the original English below.
This is what “Ad Astra” is all about
Space engineer Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) is a loner who never got over the fact that his father left on a mission to Neptune 20 years ago from which he never returned. I wanted to look for intelligent alien life there. Why his father (Tommy Lee Jones) never found his way back to earth and if he really found what he was looking for, Roy wants to finally find out: He himself takes off into space and finds secrets that question everything we thought we knew about human existence …
In addition to lead actor Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones (“Men in Black”), Donald Sutherland (“The Hunger Games”) and Ruth Negga (“Preacher”) are among those on “Ad Astra.” By the way, director James Gray’s cameraman was Hoyte van Hoytema, who already has experience bringing the universe to the screen in impressive fashion through his work on Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic “Interstellar.”
