In the 30+ Godzilla movies to date, the giant lizard has already faced many monsters. While she’s still busy with King Ghidorah in “Godzilla 2,” the movie could already provide a clue as to the next threat.
Watch out, spoilers for “Godzilla 2: King Of The Monsters” will follow!
In “Godzilla 2: King Of The Monsters,” the three-headed dragon King Ghidorah threatens to plunge the world into chaos. Only Godzilla seems capable of stopping the threat. But the comet Rodan and the giant moth Mothra also have a say. Although Ghidorah is considered one of Godzilla’s worst adversaries, the golden dragon is far from the only one aiming to destroy the world. The army finally intervenes in an early argument between Ghidorah and Godzilla off the coast of Mara Island. With a new type of weapon, the so-called Oxygen Destroyer, they want to end all life within a two mile radius and thus also give the rest to the two titans.
The plan fails, however, as Ghidorah rises almost unscathed from the water after the explosion, while Godzilla disappears badly injured in the depths of the sea. The oxygen destroyer was used in the first 1954 “Godzilla” to kill the prehistoric giant and was used more frequently in later films as well. What at first can only be seen as a pretty Easter egg could be the harbinger of a perhaps even more dangerous monster: Destoroyah!
“Godzilla vs. Destoroyah “
In 1995, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah ”, the microscopic crustaceans are up to the mischief, which mutated through the use of the Oxygen Destroyer in 1954 and further developed over decades. Eventually, they fuse to form the Titan Destoroyah, whose name can be derived from the weapon that created it and at the same time describes the nature of the monster. Because, unlike other monsters that accept collateral damage over the course of battles, Destoroyah has the deliberate intention of destroying and even enjoys it.
Destoroyah in “Godzilla Vs. Kong”?
We already know that on March 12, 2020 in “Godzilla Vs. Kong” there will be a confrontation between the two titans that gave him the title. We also assume that while there will be an exchange of blows, the two will eventually have to team up against an even greater threat. Introducing Destoroyah as the main antagonist would be possible here, but some potential would be lost. After all, Destoroyah is one of Godzilla’s most iconic opponents alongside Ghidorah. Since the conflict between Godzilla and Kong should already make up a large part of the plot, it would make more sense to use the destroyer in the upcoming Godzilla solo movie. So it could very well be that Destoroyah is the enemy of the great lizard in “Godzilla 3”.
You can currently experience the possible creation of Destoroyah in “Godzilla 2: King Of The Monsters” in theaters.
