37 percent of German internet users pay for digital music, but what services are particularly popular with the people? Although Apple’s iTunes seems to be very popular so far, the most popular service for buying digital music is Amazon’s mixed platform (streaming and buying). Pure streaming service Spotify ranks second, followed by Apple and Google with iTunes, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Google Play.

After 18 years, Apple will dissolve iTunes and replace it with three separate programs. They will be on the market in the fall along with the new Mac OS Catalina. In doing so, the company responds to criticism that it has continued to overload the program. As the Statista chart shows, iTunes is still one of the popular providers among music listeners in this country. According to Statista’s Global Consumer Survey, 14 percent of those who pay for digital music say they did so through iTunes last year. Apple Music follows, however, with 13 percent. However, Apple’s two services don’t come close to Spotify at 37 percent or even Amazon Music at 52 percent.
