Attack on Netflix: ProSieben launches free streaming service

The streaming market is increasingly competitive. And the ProSiebenSat.1 Group also wants to have a say and will therefore soon launch the Joyn platform. There you will see numerous television channels, exclusive content and Bundesliga matches.

Internationally, among other things, Disney and Apple streaming services are already at the starting points to make Netflix and Amazon Prime Video a real fire under the buttocks. However, it is not yet known when they will be available in Germany. The situation is completely different with another competitor that the group will soon launch in this country together with Discovery: The ad-supported streaming application under the name Joyn will be available from June 2019 in place of the previous ProSieben 7TV media library and will offer “the largest free TV offering in Germany”.

This means that Since the launch, more than 50 free German TV channels from the public and private sectors can be received via Joyn. In addition to broadcasters ProSiebenSat.1 (including Kabel1) and Discovery (including DMAX, Eurosport), ZDF has also been confirmed as a partner. A complete list of stations is not yet available.

In addition to the live show, of course, a media library will also be available in which lost titles from all stations can be retrieved at any time. Also, you should be able to watch some shows exclusively and for free before the TV broadcast. And Joyn will also feature self-produced content: among other things, the third season “jerks.” With Christian Ulmen and Fahri Yardim it will be shown there exclusively., the all-new comedy series “Die Läusemutter”, “Check Check” with Klaas Heufer-Umlauf, as well as “Ms. Jordan is the same ”with Katrin Bauerfeind, they will continue from the fall.

Paid content like the Bundesliga

All of the aforementioned content will be available for free within Joyn, you just have to live with commercial breaks. Furthermore, later this year, paid content will also be integrated into the app, including the streaming service Maxdome, which is already part of ProSiebenSat.1. and Discovery as well as Eurosport Player (owned by Discovery). There you can watch selected Bundesliga football matches, especially the matches on Friday and Monday. Currently, the player is still available on Amazon.

It is not yet known how much this additional content will cost. It’s also unclear when exactly Joyn will start in June. However, you can do it through the official website. Apply now as a beta tester.
