The year 2014 is drawing to a close, but the main events of the upcoming awards season are yet to come: In January, the Screen Actors Guild Awards will give a first hint about the favorites for the upcoming Academy Awards. Consequently, Benedict Cumberbatch in particular may have legitimate hopes for new trophies for the living room display. From the jury’s point of view, Benedict Cumberbatch has set the tone for both television and film this year …

Benedict Cumberbatch will remember the last twelve months for a long time: after all, the charming Briton not only celebrated his engagement to his girlfriend Sophie Hunter, but was also able to celebrate major professional successes with the hit movie “The Imitation Game” and his hit series “Sherlock.” But apparently the actor’s streak is far from over. As announced by the jury of the renowned Screen Actors Guild Awards, Benedict Cumberbatch is nominated in both categories of king.

Benedict Cumberbatch beat the jury

Not only is Benedict Cumberbatch eligible for the award in the “Best Actor – Movie” category, but he’s also a favorite in the “Best Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries” category. Thus, the 38-year-old is rightly considered one of the biggest contenders for the biggest trophies of the current awards season. After all, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will be presented for the 21st time on January 25, will give an initial indication of who could rise to the top in the race for an Oscar or a Golden Globe. Consequently, Benedict Cumberbatch may have legitimate hopes of climbing the next big step in your personal career soon.

Benedict Cumberbatch has to prevail against strong competition

However, Benedict Cumberbatch is still a long way from winning both SAG awards. After all, four other great actors apply for the award in each category. The Hollywood star, for example, faces Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Keaton, Steve Carell and Eddie Redmayne in the “Best Actor – Movie” category. However, in the race for the award for “Best Actor in a Movie Made for Television or Miniseries,” Adrien Brody, Mark Ruffalo, Billy Bob Thornton and Richard Jenkins, Benedict Cumberbatch, are trying to snatch the trophy from under the nose.

With his upcoming wedding to Sophie Hunter, Benedict Cumberbatch could certainly accept it if he had to wait a little longer for his personal shower of awards. However, after this nomination for the first major film award of the year, you can rightly look forward to a season of golden awards, in the strictest sense of the word.Image Source: © Getty Images / Anthony Harvey
