In Benedict Cumberbatch’s private life, things seem to be going perfectly: a few weeks ago, the “Sherlock” star not only got engaged to his dream wife, Sophie Hunter, but recently it became clear that his dream partner is expecting a child. On the Ellen DeGeneres TV show, Benedict Cumberbatch talked about his family’s happiness and went to find a suitable name with the star host.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the star of the moment – after all, the clever Brit can not only look forward to a successful awards season, but he has also been in more private headlines in recent months – reason enough to get invited on the Ellen DeGeneres show. There, the talk queen chatted with the actor in her usual humorous way about the next offspring and the difficulties in finding a suitable name for the unusual surname Cumberbatch. “We have to be careful with the name,” Benedict Cumberbatch openly revealed.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted

So it was fortunate that Ellen DeGeneres had brought in some names to suggest to Benedict Cumberbatch for her offspring. However, unsurprisingly, names like Engelbert, Harpsichord, and Glockenspiel didn’t sit well with the Hollywood star. The last suggestion, in particular, elicited a clear association in the 38-year-old man. “That could be something for a German kid in lederhosen,” Benedict Cumberbatch joked. But even more serious Christian names like Carl fell through with him. When it comes to names, the star of the series doesn’t seem to want to look at the cards.

Benedict Cumberbatch doesn’t like “Cumberbitches”

Another flourish that emerged from his name in the past are the so-called “cumberbitches”, as the actor’s groupies like to call themselves, especially on social media. Benedict Cumberbatch, however, this term is quite scary. In any case, he is not the author of this name. “It definitely wasn’t. That’s part of my problem with it. I wrote to them, ‘Ladies, this is wonderful. I’m very flattered, but isn’t that a step backward for feminism? Empower yourself with a safer name if you’re crazy about a guy. ‘ But apparently the appeal that Benedict Cumberbatch made to his female fans fell on deaf ears: “You are very cute. They respond by saying: ‘We don’t want to harm feminism. We’re having a bit of fun with your name. ‘

Benedict Cumberbatch has been proving for years that not only can you succeed with an unusual name, you can even become a real brand. You are sure to find the right name for your baby too.
