Fairphone wants to announce the third smartphone again with the fact that the device is sustainable and very easy to repair. But can other institutions confirm it? Of course, there is now a corresponding report from iFixit, in which exactly this was verified. Like other smartphones, the Fairphone 3 was dismantled and tested to determine if the hardware was easy to disassemble.

These are the highlights of the teardown:

  • The back cover of the Fairphone 3 is a bit easier to remove than the Fairphone 2. At the same time, the design has become slimmer.
  • Goodbye sliding mechanism: the Fairphone 3 display is held in place with screws. A Phillips screwdriver is required for disassembly, which, unlike the charging cable and the headphones, is included in the scope of supply, for greater repairability and less electronic waste.
  • With the Fairphone 3, the manufacturer remains true to its modular product design principles. In addition to the back cover, battery, and display, there are four other modules, all of which are attached with Phillips screws. But if you want to open it, you need a Torx bit.

There was a repairability rating of 10 out of 10. As a general rule, there are far fewer points on modern smartphones. If that’s important to you, you can use the Fairphone 3.
