BMW X5 and BMW X6 now also as mild hybrids
In the future, you can also buy BMW X5 xDrive40d and BMW X6 xDrive40d with BMW Mild Hybrid System. A newly developed six-cylinder diesel engine in combination with a 48-volt starter generator will be used in both vehicles from May. In this context, the power is increased to 250 kW / 340 PS. A torque of 700 Nm is developed. While driving, you can turn to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission with all-wheel drive.
The mild hybrid system provides an additional 8 kW / 11 PS electrical power. Electric boost increases dynamics when starting and accelerating. According to the manufacturer, sprinting from a standstill can be mastered in 5.5 seconds with the two new BMW X models. The required energy is charged by recovery in the braking and braking phases and, if necessary, by selectively increasing the load point of the combustion engine.
BMW 5 and 7 series will come as electronic models
Meanwhile, the “Handelsblatt” reports that other BMW models will get purely electric propulsion. It can be heard from corporate circles that the top model of the 7 series will be available with a pure electric motor starting in 2022. Shortly thereafter, the 5 series will follow. Diesel, gasoline and hybrid models will continue to exist in parallel. It has long been known that the compact BMW i3 will be joined by a sister model, the BMW i4, next year.
Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 4Matic +
Can it be a little more sporty? Then you can opt for the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 4Matic + Coupé. Because here a mild hybrid system is used, which also allows partially electrified driving.
The heart of the SUV coupe is the 4.0-liter AMG V8 biturbo engine, which is electrified with an EQ Boost starter generator and a 48-volt electrical system for particularly spontaneous starting behavior. The basic model has a power of 420 kW (571 PS), the S variant even 450 kW (612 PS). An all-wheel drive with 9-speed automatic transmission ensures that you can not only drive up to 280 km / h, but also accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4 seconds.
Kia Sportage: 2021 Model Year with Modern Mild Diesel Hybrids
There are also news from Kia. The Sportage compact SUV will be updated in 2021. Standard equipment now includes an audio system with an 8-inch touchscreen, which replaces the previous 7-inch radio. Digital radio reception (DAB +) and a smartphone interface (Android Auto / Apple CarPlay) are also standard.
Starting in model year 2021, all three available diesel models will be equipped with a 48-volt-based mild hybrid system as standard. The top-of-the-line diesel engine is rated at 136 kW / 185 PS, while the 85 kW / 115 PS and 100 kW / 136 PS variants are slightly cheaper.
Despite the higher-quality equipment, prices for diesel models have remained unchanged. The basic version costs 25,740 euros. Orders can be placed immediately. Production will begin in April at Kia’s European plant in Slovakia.
Honda Jazz Hybrid – fixed price
It’s clear from last year that the Honda Jazz will only be available with hybrid drive in the future. Pricing for the new Honda Jazz has now also been set: for the summer 2020 market launch, prices will start at € 22,000 for the Jazz and € 26,250 for the new Jazz Crosstar.
The hybrid system was developed especially for jazz. It consists of two compact electric motors, a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, a lithium-ion battery and a direct drive with an intelligent control unit. Power is 80 kW (109 hp), acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is successful according to the manufacturer in 9.4 seconds. The maximum speed is 175 km / h.
Dacia announces the first electric car
Meanwhile, Dacia does not have specific plans for electric cars, but at least a perspective of what should happen from late 2021 or early 2022. It has now been announced that a first electric car will be available (project name: Dacia Urban City Car) of Renault’s Romanian subsidiary. Possibly a cheaper variant of the Renault Twingo ZE or a European variant of the Renault City K-ZE, which was previously only available in China.
Nikola Badger: the cybertruck alternative
And then there’s one more piece of news that no one in particular should like: Tesla boss Elon Musk. Because just a few weeks after the introduction of the Tesla Cybertruck, the American competitor Nikola presented an electronic alternative with the Badger pick-up model.
Power plant power: about 460 hp with 1,300 Newton meters of torque. According to the manufacturer, an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h should be achieved in 2.9 seconds, the autonomy is around 480 kilometers. You can drive another 300 miles if you use the optionally reserve fuel cell unit, which can be activated with the push of a button.
So far there have only been concept images of the truck. And unlike the Tesla pick-up truck, they don’t have a particularly flashy design, but rather a classic one. The car will be officially presented in September. Then you should also be able to hear the earliest time the car will be available.
Higher environmental bonus valid immediately: Nissan goes one better
By the way: if you buy an electric car or a plug-in hybrid model now, you can now benefit from a higher environmental premium. And the Japanese manufacturer Nissan does better: if you choose the Nissan Leaf, you get even more than those currently guaranteed up to 6,000 euros. By buying a Nissan Leaf ZE1 (with 40 kWh battery) or Leaf e + (with 62 kWh battery) you will get 1,600 euros (Leaf ZE1) or 3,800 euros (Leaf e +) on top. So you can save a lot when buying an e-car.
