Duncan Skiles was inspired for his suspense drama by the true misdeeds of BTK’s killer, but still delivers an original and compelling serial killer movie that will be released in Germany on August 1, 2019 for home theaters.
The constant stream of serial killer movies doesn’t stop. Most of them have nothing new to offer for a long time (if you ignore Zac Efron’s abs). But “The Clovehitch Killer” from director Duncan Skiles and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” author Christopher D. Ford is a welcome exception: After all, it’s not every day a serial killer thriller straight to DVD gets 4 stars from us. The conclusion of our criticism is then: “A refreshing and different serial killer movie that convinces more with authenticity than awkward moments of shock.Also, Charlie Plummer (the kidnapping victim of Ridley Scott’s ‘Alles Geld der Welt’) and Dylan McDermott (‘Olympus Has Fallen’) are two prominent lead actors.
This is what “The Clovehitch Killer” is about:
Tyler Burnside (Charlie Plummer), 16, lives with his parents Don (Dylan McDermott) and Cindy (Samantha Mathis) in a small American town in an area of the Midwest, whose residents after the cruel actions of the previously unknown Clovehitch. The killers are frankly traumatized. But then Tyler not only finds all kinds of Sado-Maso magazines in his father’s hobby shop, but also a plan of the house in which more basement rooms are drawn than actually exist. So, can it be that all these years, inadvertently Tyler lived under the same roof as a serial killer as a father? In desperation, he turns to his classmate Kassi (Madisen Beaty), an outsider who, however, turns out to be an astonishingly intelligent investigator …
