A look at the source code for Google’s current phone app reveals two new features that will be available soon.
Google will soon integrate new features into its own phone app, one of which is already familiar to us on Pixel smartphones. “Flip to Shhh” was introduced with the Pixel 3 series. An incoming call can be muted simply by turning the smartphone towards the screen. The Pixel devices feature even allows you to completely switch the device to “Do not disturb”.
In the phone app, it is already evident today that this feature has now been relocated from the system settings. Directly to the phone application. This means that the option can also be used on other devices, such as Android One smartphones.
In this case, the function is only limited to incoming calls to silence them: “To silence an incoming call, place the phone face down on a flat surface.”
Answer calls: one-way video
The source code of the phone application also shows the first indications of a new answer option. We can then respond to incoming calls with a video response, which Google calls “one-way video.” The exact functionality is not yet clear, the discovered text modules do not allow clear conclusions.
