Google has gotten into the hardware business in recent years, which is growing slowly but surely. Among other things, Google had taken over a large chunk of HTC for its own hardware. Therefore, today Google builds its own smartphones, no longer as in the past with Huawei or other manufacturers. Pixel smartphones are not yet a mass phenomenon, but sales are slowly increasing. But perhaps too slow. Additionally, Google manufactures smart speakers, TV dongles, routers, thermostats, laptops, and other hardware for end customers (almost) around the world.

Pixel smartphones still aren’t a blockbuster

Google does not disclose in detail which of the hardware departments is responsible for the amount of revenue. The only information was that hardware was now a multi-million dollar business for Google. Around other departments they were a bit more open and gave more detailed figures. YouTube achieved a total turnover of more than $ 17 billion last year, so it should be well ahead of the hardware departments.

Presumably, the smartphone department is still not doing very well; a comparison with the competition seems to be avoided. It’s basically the usual strategy. If a business doesn’t turn out as expected, corporations hide the exact information and are reluctant to talk about it. If you sell a lot like Huawei, companies show off their sales figures.
