Grandma’s Classic Shortbread Cookies

Grandma's Classic Shortbread Cookies

For me, as you can probably guess, there used to be cookies from our bakery in the run-up to Christmas and Advent. There was a break in the packaging, we ate it as a family and when I weighed the 100g retail bags in the afternoon, a cookie or two also got into my mouth or stomach. Even then favorites were cinnamon stars, hazelnut macaroons, shortbread cookies, and of course the classic shortbread cookies.

What was always very special to me, however, was my grandmother’s plate of cookies on Christmas Eve, because her Christmas treats just tasted different again, not to say better, but different… wonderfully homemade and made with love!

Your shortbread cookies were heavenly and I would like to share the recipe with you today here …

Grandma's Classic Shortbread Cookies

250 g flour

200g butter

100 g of the finest sugar

1 egg yolk

1 tablespoon of rum

To paint:

1 egg yolk

Some milk

Grandma's Classic Shortbread Recipe - Easy and Sure to Succeed

Put all the ingredients in a bowl (dice the butter) and use the dough hook to quickly turn it into a smooth dough. Put in the refrigerator for half an hour. Then spread about 3mm thick on a floured work surface. Cut the cookies and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Beat the egg yolks with a tablespoon of milk and spread the cookies with it.

Preheat the oven to 180 ° C (160 ° C convection) and bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes.

Tip: If you like a fine lemon note, add a teaspoon of lemon zest to the batter.

If you are looking for more Christmas baking inspiration, then maybe take a look at my hazelnut macaroons, or vanilla croissants, maybe Florentines or cinnamon stars as well …

If you are looking for a dessert, I recommend the speculoos cream with baked apple compote or the ginger trifle with plum and blueberry compote.
