High-end smartphones browse faster while mobile devices; however, devices from China are less prevalent

Although the mobile Internet should not be reduced solely to the speed available, these values are at least interesting and are compared from time to time. For example, OpenSignal provides statistics based on the mobile devices used. So there is the report “The experience of the mobile network of smartphones in Germany”, which I would like to briefly address.

Basically, the hardware in the offered devices differs a lot, that is not a secret and is a topic over and over again. However, I think that many people don’t necessarily realize how different network hardware can be from a smartphone. Example: A few years ago there were regular problems with various chinaphones not even supporting the long-standing 5 GHz WLAN.

LTE does not have the same speed with all devices

Today, the base of all price ranges looks good. However, several data surveys show that there are measurable differences. Basically, the devices with the highest average achievable data rates are always from the flagship category. On the one hand, this has to do with the LTE hardware and, on the other hand, with the rest of the technical equipment that has to process this data.

China smartphones on the back

A look at the individual categories paints a clearer picture. Xiaomi and Huawei in particular stand out negatively, mostly lagging behind the competition. This is not completely new news in the field of cellular communications, because Xiaomi recently had a rather negative impact on radiation values as well. Basically, however, it can be said that inexpensive devices with about 20 Mbit / s always offer enough speed for mobile applications.

LTE: the real benefit is not speed
