It was already known that a sequel to “John Wick” is in the works. Now Lionsgate officially confirms the work on “John Wick 2” and also the return of lead actor Keanu Reeves and directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch.
On January 29, 2015, “John Wick” burst into German cinemas and critics and viewers alike reacted positively to the dark action thriller with Keanu Reeves as the title hero in search of revenge. After directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski had already expressed interest in making a sequel, Lionsgate gave the green light to “John Wick 2”. Keanu Reeves’ return has also been confirmed and thus nothing stands in the way of the director duo’s plans to expand the John Wick story into a multi-part film series. Nothing specific is planned beyond “John Wick 2”, but both the studio and the actors in front of and behind the camera seem to be convinced of their product, as evidenced by the collective return.
In the action thriller, Reeves plays former professional killer John Wick, who falls into a deep hole following the death of his wife, for whom he once quit his dangerous job. When he is provoked by his former employer’s son Viggo Tarasov (Michael Nyqvist) and also kills Wick’s late wife’s dog, the latter freaks out and is on a full-scale revenge campaign in his former full form. FILMSTARTS gave four stars to this “sturdy and robust ripper of revenge”. And “John Wick” did well at the box office, grossing $ 78.7 million worldwide.
And even more team members are returning for the sequel: Derek Kolstad re-delivers the script, but has yet to reveal any plot details. Nothing is known about the possible movie release date either, but “John Wick 2” will be offered for sale to international distributors in a few days at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival market, so this time the mills should be grinding very fast.
