What is worth waiting for! Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for an Academy Award six times, at the Oscars 2016 he was finally able to take home the gold trophy for best leading actor for “The Revenant.”

Here’s the thing: Leonardo DiCaprio finally has his Oscar in his hands!

For years funny images, so-called memes, have been frolicking on the internet, amused by the lack of an Oscar from Leonardo DiCaprio. That’s the end: The 41-year-old celebrated his first win in the film industry’s top award at the Oscars 2016 from Sunday to Monday. Also to the delight of his peers who were present: After Leo took the stage to receive the award for best lead actor for “The Revenant,” the characters themselves received a standing ovation.

But despite his first Academy Award, Leonardo DiCaprio remained astonishingly calm and humble. “‘The Revenant’ is a product of this incredible cast and crew,” he said. Of course, the Hollywood star also used his moment in the limelight to thank the Academy, his colleagues, parents and friends for their constant support. But his acceptance speech was not of a purely personal nature: Leonardo DiCaprio also spoke about climate change, a topic that is known to be very close to his heart.

Call to fight climate change

“Climate change is real. He is our biggest threat. Let’s not take this planet for granted. I’m not taking tonight for granted, ”said the“ The Revenant ”star after pointing out the dangers of climate change and calling for action against it. While Leonardo DiCaprio wavered between a bright smile, coldness and serious message on stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, his confidants let his feelings run much more. Especially Kate Winslet, who was also in the audience and shrugged off her partner’s award. Before that, the actress walked the red carpet at the Oscars 2016 with Leo: In front of the cameras, the two stars of “Titanic” exchanged intimate glances and loving gestures, but only of a purely friendly nature, of course.

We knew Leonardo DiCaprio would finally get his first Best Actor award at the Oscars 2016! Congratulations!
