LG is planning a surprising update for the G5 starting in 2016, and in South Korea there are increasing indications of a system update with Android 8 Oreo on board. The corresponding firmware has long been included in Asia, but so far only for the Asian model F700. In Germany, the G5 was sold under the designation H850, so still the corresponding firmware did not appear. But that should happen in the next few weeks.

When Android 8 Oreo was released, the LG G5 was almost exactly one and a half years old, and Android users have been expecting new updates for flagship smartphones for at least 24 months. Like LG, Huawei is currently being criticized for the same issue. So now it seems that something is happening at LG. Especially since the hardware cannot be presented as a reason, the Snapdragon 820 does not represent an obstacle in other devices either.

The source of the new information is simply the publication of the kernel source code with the designation “Android_Oreo” directly on the LG website. But as mentioned, no information is available yet for the model sold in Europe! [via]
