Due to various laws and regulations, it was previously not possible for German network operators to be able to use their LTE stations to the full in border areas. Now there has been a reaction to these circumstances, the BMVI announced this week. At least 780,000 households should benefit from the fact that network operators can use their LTE stations in border areas to their full extent. The BMVI issued the following notice on the positive changes:

Mobile network providers have installed numerous LTE stations in border regions, but are unable to take full advantage of the existing potential, due to the interpretation of regulations on international coordination. These regulate the radiation of mobile phones from Germany to the neighboring country. Henceforth Mobile network operators can activate LTE stations that were previously unlit and fully commission LTE stations that previously operated at reduced power.

Supply gaps must be closed

Together with the Federal Network Agency and mobile network operators, the BMVI has developed a concept for further development of the border coordination procedure within the existing legal framework. The goal is for mobile network operators to be able to quickly close all supply gaps previously caused by border coordination problems.

Mobile phone providers are implementing these steps step by step. As a result, immediate improvements in cell phone coverage are expected.
