The Geneva Motor Show is just around the corner and many automakers are already introducing their new products segment by segment. In separate reports, we already introduced you to the new Cupra Leon with plug-in hybrid drive and the Stromer Renault Twingo ZE. But there are more novelties in the electric car market.
Volkswagen Touareg R – hybrid world premiere
For example, the new Touareg R with hybrid drive was presented with force at the Geneva motor show. As a plug-in hybrid, the SUV is not only extremely powerful (a total of 340 kW / 462 PS is available at 700 NM torque), but also purely electric at speeds of up to 140 km / h. If you want to drive faster, the V6 turbo petrol engine (TSI) is added to the electric motor.
The lithium-ion battery with an energy content of 14.1 kWh is located in the lower part of the luggage compartment. Power is transmitted through an 8-speed automatic transmission (with Tiptronic) and a transfer case to the standard 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Hyundai Kona Elektro Advantage – New Special Model
If you are interested in the Hyundai Kona Electric, there is interesting news to the effect that the electric car is available in a new special model variant, with extensive standard equipment. In addition to a radio navigation system with lifetime map updates, a Krell sound system, a reversing camera, 17-inch wheels, heated seats and a heated steering wheel are factory installed. In addition, the rear windows of the Kona Elektro Advantage are tinted dark.
The special Advantage model is available exclusively for the Hyundai Kona Elektro with an engine power of 136 hp (100 kW) and a battery capacity of 39.2 kWh. Orders can start at € 38,400, but you can save a few thousand euros with the environmental bonus. Instead of the usual 6,000 euros, Hyundai currently even includes a discount of 8,000 euros. Additionally, Hyundai will increase the unlimited mileage warranty for the Kona Elektro from five to eight years. There is also an eight-year warranty on the battery, but this is combined with a maximum mileage of 160,000 kilometers.
Hyundai i20 with mild hybrid system
The Hyundai i20 with mild hybrid technology is also new and will celebrate its world premiere in a few days at the Geneva Motor Show. It is already the third generation of the compact car that you want to mark with a revised and sportier exterior design: the roof is now 24 millimeters lower, the body 30 millimeters wider and 5 millimeters longer. The wheelbase has been increased by 10 millimeters.
Another technological innovation: there are two 10.25-inch displays inside, which consist of a digital instrument panel and a navigation touchscreen and are combined on the dashboard. Among other things, an emergency braking assistant (FCA), which now recognizes pedestrians and cyclists, ensures safety. A navigation-based adaptive cruise control system is also on board.
With two gasoline engines and three different transmissions, Hyundai meets various customer needs with the new i20. At the top of the series is a 1.0 T-GDi in two power levels (74 kW and 88 kW). The 88 kW (120 PS) variant has a 48-volt mild hybrid system as standard, which reduces fuel consumption by three to four percent.
The mild hybrid system is optionally available with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a newly developed six-speed manual transmission with an electronically controlled clutch. The new manual transmission decouples the engine from the transmission as soon as the driver takes his foot off the accelerator pedal. Then the fuel saving navigation mode begins.
The new i20 has 17-inch alloy wheels and is produced in Izmit, Turkey. Hyundai has yet to reveal a price.
