New smartphones from Huawei and Xiaomi: more battery and faster charging

Mate Xs, Mi 10 and Co: Xiaomi, Huawei and other Chinese manufacturers show what is possible in terms of battery capacity and charging speed.

In the coming year, there will usually be new smartphones from Huawei, Xiaomi and company, all of whom want to convince with amazing features. But also in the battery area something is happening again, several manufacturers want to significantly increase the battery capacity and the charging process. New reports from Asia say that Xiaomi, for example, would like to transfer the strategy with generous batteries to its own flagship series in the next year.

Mi 10: Xiaomi increases the battery

There was already an exclamation point with Xiaomi’s Mi Note 10, which, however, counts as a premium mid-range. A battery with more than 5000 mAh was under the screen, with comparable smartphones from the competition, there was almost always around 1000 mAh less. Not a very significant number, but it can go a long way in everyday life when it comes to battery life. 25% more battery, hardly anyone would have anything wrong with that.

Furthermore, we must not forget that the Mi 9 has a battery of only 3300 mAh, despite its generous design. For the new Mi 10, at least 4500 mAh can be expected. So more battery is also required for a power-hungry display with 90 or 120 Hz. And a 5G model of the Mi 10 is also on the agenda. At first, more battery might be required due to the narrow coverage of the 5G network.

Mate Xs: Huawei and company want to charge even faster

Manufacturers like Xiaomi have long demonstrated fast charging solutions with up to 100 watts, but they have not implemented them for obtainable smartphones. However, there will be news on this next year. For example, shortly after Christmas, Huawei received a certificate for a 65-watt charger. That would be double what OnePlus currently offers as “Warp Charge.”

We also expect improvements from all manufacturers in this area. But not everyone will offer 60 watts or the like, Samsung and other market leaders have been far behind in this regard for years.
