The year 2014 should remain in the memory of the guys of One Direction for a long time: after all, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson not only toured three continents as part of their “Where We Are “But they took them with them. “Four” also released their fourth studio album. With all this hard work, it’s no wonder One Direction wins a major award at the end of the year …
Five American Music Awards, four Brit Awards and countless MTV Europe Music Awards – One Direction’s trophy case is packed to burst just a few years after the group’s founding. Now there is another title: as announced by the music magazine “Billboard”, the teenage idols will receive the recognized award “Best Artist of the Year from Billboard”. This makes One Direction the first band since Destiny’s Child in 2001 to take home this award.
To secure this title, which summarizes the positions on album and singles charts, as well as data from streaming portals and social networks, One Direction had to prevail against stiff competition. So the five left behind Katy Perry, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake, who round out the top 5. “Incredible news! The boys have been named ‘Billboard’s 2014 Best Artist of the Year,’ ”the team behind One Direction said on Twitter of this special honor.
One Direction gets lost in the UK
In its home country of Great Britain, One Direction will only be able to see tomorrow, Thursday, when this year’s BBC Music Awards are presented at Earl’s Court in London. In the “British Artist of the Year” category, highly successful high-flying individuals had to give way to six other nominees, including David Bowie, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith. However, One Direction is not jealous: instead of accepting an award themselves, Harry Styles & Co. will be on stage and performing live.
In view of the “Billboard” magazine trophy, One Direction will probably be able to overcome the fact that the “BBC Music Award” is missing out this year. After all, the next award shows are just around the corner …
