Oscars 2016: these are the winners of the Screen Actors Guild Awards

Following his nomination for an Oscar, Golden Globe and various critical awards, Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”) has now also received the Actors Guild Award. Two awards went to Idris Elba, not an Oscar nominee.

At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, unionized American actors pay tribute to their peers; Like the other guilds’ awards, they will be presented in the run-up to the Academy Awards, which are held on February 28, 2016.

Oscar favorite Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”) and with several other awards such as the Golden Globe in his luggage, won the SAG award for Best Actor. The leading actors of the newspaper drama “Spotlight” were declared the best cast, namely Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery and Brian d’Arcy James.

Best supporting actor is Idris Elba in the Netflix war drama “Beast Of No Nation.” Elba was also named best lead actor on the series “Luther.” Elba has not been nominated for an Oscar, nor has any actor of skin color other than white, which again brought much criticism and protests to the Academy in 2016.

Best Leading Actress at the SAG Awards was Brie Larson (“Raum”), Best Supporting Actress Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”). Like DiCaprio, the two are also nominated for their roles at the Oscars, the three favorites.
