Google briefly distributed an app update for Google Chrome that could lead to the loss of locally stored data on some Android apps.
Google is struggling with a problem with the latest version of Chrome, because the latest update brings with it possible data loss for some users. Interestingly, it is not the Chrome browser itself that is “flushed”, but other installed Android applications are affected by this problem. Applications with integrated WebView are at risk, that is, those that use a built-in browser based on Google Chrome. Some or even all of an application’s local data miraculously disappears. Quite unpleasant for users.
December 18, 2019 update
Soon after, Google was able to resolve the issues with an update. It even turned out to be no data loss had given. Instead, the app data was simply no longer visible.
“The M79 update for Chrome and WebView on Android devices was stopped after an issue was discovered in WebView where some users’ application data was not visible in these applications. The data for this app was not lost and will be visible again in the apps when we deliver an update this week. We apologize for any inconvenience. “
