With the Galaxy Fold, Samsung initially launched a foldable smartphone that opens like a tablet. But now the South Koreans are showing off their next form factor, even with their own video. Samsung presented its new idea at the SDC 2019 internal developer conference. “A new form factor for foldable smartphones,” reads the very short video description. A new type of device will be shown with a folding screen that folds up, like classic folding phones.

Samsung is launching another form factor for folding

We expect a first smartphone of this type from Motorola, which has already announced an event for next November. One can also expect such a foldable smartphone from Samsung next year. I find this quite practical, because it would combine the advantages of previous folding phones with the very large smartphones of today.

With the launch of Galaxy Fold, Samsung designed a one-of-a-kind mobile experience that is much more than just a foldable device. Samsung, together with hundreds of developers and partners, created an entire foldable ecosystem that continues to grow and opens up new possibilities for the mobile experience. As promised at SDC last year, Samsung will continue to explore a range of new form factors in the folding category. And at SDC19, Samsung invited developers and users to join in exploring new use cases and exciting user experiences.
