Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 + and S20 Ultra: this is the new S-Class

The rumor had been boiling for a long time. And she was reliable. Much of the speculation that has been made about Samsung’s new Galaxy smartphones was spot on. The manufacturer not only launches the successor to the two standard models Galaxy S10 and S10 +, but also a new premium model with the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The Galaxy S10e lineup will die out after just a year, at least for now. As they say, you want to focus on a powerful camera. However, looking at the competition and the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, it is possible that Samsung will release a Lite version of the Galaxy S20 at a later date. Alternatively, Samsung’s A-series, which was only redefined in 2019, could catch the jump between the middle and upper class.

This is Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 family

Samsung Galaxy S20: the standard model

The Galaxy S20 is the first smartphone of the bunch and it is also the “weakest” model. However, this statement does not get to the heart of the matter, because Samsung has created a modern device with which users cannot go wrong. With the Galaxy S20 you get a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED screen with HDR + 10 support and a resolution of 1,440 x 3,200 pixels. According to Samsung, the latter should guarantee more pleasant colors and better contrasts. The pixel density is 563 dpi and in combination with the dynamic AMOLED display it should achieve a cinema-quality presentation.

This year too, Samsung’s internal processor is used in the European version of the Galaxy S20. The new Exynos 990 runs under the hood with eight cores and a clock frequency of up to 2.73 GHz. It is supported by 8 or 12 GB RAM. There is a memory of 128 GB available internally, which can be increased by up to 1 TB with a micro SD card.

As for the camera, Samsung is turning the screws, although the number of lenses remains the same. The Galaxy S20 uses a triple camera with 12, 12 and 64 megapixels. On the front is still a 10 megapixel selfie camera.

Ultimately, the successor to the Galaxy S10 offers a larger battery that now measures 4,000 mAh instead of 3,400 and can be charged quickly and wirelessly. Android 10, including One UI certification, LTE Cat.20 and IP68, are also part of the Galaxy S20 team. Samsung is making the Galaxy S20 available in 4G and 5G versions.

Samsung Galaxy S20 +: the new sandwich child

If the Galaxy S20 is too boring or even too small for you, the Galaxy S20 + is a significantly larger smartphone. The device is not only wider and taller, but also much heavier than its little brother. The Galaxy S20 + offers a 6.7-inch screen, the panel of which also has Super AMOLED and HDR10 +. The smartphone has a resolution of 1,440 x 3,200 pixels. Another difference can be found in the battery: it can call its own 4,500 mAh; wireless charging and fast charging function remain.

In addition to another memory variant offering 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal capacity, the Galaxy S20 + also has a quad camera instead of a triple. The configuration is divided into an ultra-wide and wide-angle lens with sensors of 12 megapixels each, a telemodule with 64 megapixels and a depth sensor.

Other than that, the Galaxy S20 and S20 + are the same from a technical specs perspective. This means the following:

  • Front camera: 10 megapixels, f / 2.2
  • Processor: Samsung Exynos 990, Octa-Core, 2.73 GHz
  • RAM: 8 or 12 GB
  • Internal memory: 128 or 512 GB (expandable)
  • OS: Android 10 and One UI
  • Others: IP68, LTE Cat.20, 4G and 5G models

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: the premium class

Instead of a cheaper S20 variant, Samsung is launching a model that sets itself apart in the premium segment. The Galaxy S20 Ultra is the most powerful smartphone in the S20 family. Content can be viewed on a 6.9-inch Super AMOLED screen, which, like the other devices, is also HDR10 + certified. The resolution is 1,440 x 3,200 pixels.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra shares the use of the Exynos 990 with its siblings, which sets the pace with 12 or 16GB of RAM. Internal capacities of 128, 256 and 512 GB are available depending on the model. If that’s not enough, the memory can be expanded up to 1TB with a micro SD card. The battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and is therefore surprisingly large for a device in this class.

The highlight of the Galaxy S20 Ultra is undoubtedly the camera. Samsung particularly emphasizes the 108-megapixel wide-angle module, which is provided with an optical image stabilizer and an aperture of f / 1.8. Furthermore, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 48-megapixel telephoto camera and a depth sensor belong to the smartphone’s quad camera. The main camera also features a 100x digital zoom. A 40-megapixel camera awaits selfie friends out front.

Otherwise, the premium model of the new S series offers resistance to dust and water in accordance with IP68 certification, wireless charging, as well as a fast charge function and 5G connectivity. Unlike the Galaxy S20 and S20 +, there is no 4G version of the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
