Until now, 5G has been a problem for the niche, but manufacturers like Sony are already planning a lot more for next year. Until now, few manufacturers have offered only very few expensive 5G smartphones. Sony wants to break this path and plans to equip all of its own high-end smartphones with 5G in principle within the next year. The Xperia 5 of this end of summer would have been the last high-end smartphone of the Japanese that “only” transmits via 4G for mobile Internet.

5G will soon be a major problem at Sony

Sony initially wants to rush to its expensive flagship smartphones for 5G, devices in the mid and low price ranges will initially only offer 4G (LTE). Different tones from other manufacturers can already be heard, so the first 5G smartphones can also be expected in the mid-price segment from 2020.

Today, customers are also investing in the future, a smartphone is no longer so quickly replaced by a newer model. That is why 5G is already interesting today, at least from this point of view. What may not be usable now will be much more widespread in two years.
