The history of the name “Starbucks”
But as well established as the Starbucks name has become, it was more difficult at first to agree on the correct name. That betrayed co-founder Gordon Bowker in an interview with the Seattle Times. Because I wanted Starbucks to be called not Starbucks, but “Cargo House”. Please that?!! It couldn’t be more inappropriate. And that was my opinion his colleague Terry Heckler, with whom I wanted to build the company together. Terry thought that the name should start with “st”, because all the words that begin with these letters have a strong sound. And that is how Gordon Bowker dealt with the most diverse names with these two initials and came across a city in Washington state called “Starbo.” That word immediately reminded him of that. Starbuck character from the book Moby-Dick. So what the Starbucks name evolved.
