Huawei has not only announced the launch of the Mate X these days, but has also given a bit more clarity to its own product strategy. Or something like that. It has long been known that the Mate X, equipped with a folding screen, could be available in different versions. On the one hand, there is the model with a Kirin 980 and 5G processor, which was shown in the spring of 2019. Everything has changed a bit since then.

Buyers decide if the processor is old or new

Now it is clearer how Huawei markets the second model. The deciding factor in the name is the additional S. If a buyer wants the highest possible technology in this smartphone, they will buy the Huawei Mate Xs in the future. Not only will the existing 5G radio be advantageous in the long run, the highest version 990 processor has a few more strengths to offer. The novelty is that a manufacturer offers a smartphone with processors of different ages.

Stakeholders’ patience is required for several reasons. So far, Huawei hasn’t re-announced the Mate X for Europe, and the Kirin 990 model won’t be offered until March 2020 anyway. Perhaps things have smoothed out by then and Huawei will be able to offer new smartphones with Google services again.
