A suspicious casting already indicated a few months ago that Superman’s archenemy, Lex Luthor, could have an appearance in the second season of the DC series “Titans.” Another casting now seems to corroborate this.
In the second season of the comic book series “Titans”, the superhero team of the same name apparently has to deal with several villains. In addition to the return of Trigon (Seamus Dever), the cult villain Deathstroke has also been confirmed and officially cast (“Ozark” gangster Esai Morales will play DC’s killer). But these probably won’t be the only Antagonite heavyweights that former Batman partner Robin (Brenton Thwaites) and company will have to deal with. So there is another indication that we are actually looking at the iconic Superman antagonist Lex Luthor.
Lex Luther’s right hand is there
When in February 2019 Looking for an actor to play the role of a capricious and unpredictable manipulative teacher with a past in prison began, it was already suspected that it could be Lex Luthor. Many fans also found the alleged role name Dax highly suspicious (the proximity to Lex is unmistakable) and the lack of an external description (such as a striking bald head). Now the cast of a completely different character suggests that Lex Luthor will play a role in the new episodes of “Titans.”
How Deadline reported, British series actress Natalie Gumede (“Jekyll & Hyde”) is in the second season of “Titans” viz. She plays Mercy Graves, Lex Luthor’s unscrupulous right hand and character bodyguard.. Graves first appeared in the comics in 1999, but originated three years earlier in the animated series “Superman.” Given that we now know with certainty that a close confidant of Luthor will make her debut in “Titans,” the assumption that Luthor himself will also appear is no longer far-fetched.
Lex Luthor only in season 3?
If Lex Luthor appears in the second season of “Titans,” it is questionable if his role will be that important by then. It’s also conceivable that he would act in the background first, appear on the sidelines, or even only hint towards the end as a villain for a possible third season. The same was done with Superboy, who had a mini-appearance in the post-credits scene of the first season of “Titans” and is only really being used in the second season (played by newcomer Joshua Orpin).
By the way, the appearance of Superboy could also be a harbinger of the appearance of Lex Luthor, since his DNA was formed from that of Superman and Luthor. Thus, the “Titans” newcomer could first be introduced correctly and then discover his true origin, and then perhaps face Luthor in a third season. The co-creator of “Titans” Geoff Johns already announced in the summer of 2018 at San Diego Comic-Con that this plot, known from the comics of “Teen Titans”, will one day also be processed in the adaptation of the series .
When does season 2 arrive?
We will have to wait a bit before we get the final answer. The second season of “Titans” will begin in Fall 2019 on the US streaming platform DC Universe. In this country, where the series is running on Netflix, it probably won’t be that time again until a few months later. (The first season was available in Germany three months after the start of the US season.)
