After the lead actor in Clint Eastwood’s “The Ballad Of Richard Jewell” was recently found in Paul Walter Hauser, now another familiar face joins the biographical drama with Kathy Bates.
A devastating bomb attack took place at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, killing two people and injuring 111 others. The tube bombs used for the attack were previously discovered by security guard Richard Jewell, who alerted police and assisted with evacuation before explosive devices exploded. This averted an even greater tragedy. However, Jewell was later publicly denounced as a suspect by the media due to misinformation and subsequently had to deal with serious health problems.
After movies like “American Sniper” and “Sully” were based on true events, Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood (“Gran Torino”) now tells the story with “The Ballad Of Richard Jewell”, based on the eponymous Vanity fair-Article from 1997 – the story of the unfairly scolded security guard. Recently, Paul Walter Hauser (“Me, Tonya”) was hired as the lead actor for the project that has been in the works for several years. Beside him, Sam Rockwell (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”) is said to play Jewell’s attorney. How Deadline Reportedly, “American Horror Story” star Kathy Bates will now appear on camera as Jewell’s mother, Bobi, for Eastwood. She can currently be seen in John Lee Hancock’s “The Highwaymen” on Netflix.
Jonah Hill (“War Dogs”) and Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”) were originally supposed to play the roles of Richard Jewell and his lawyer, but they have stuck with the project as producers. Filming should start this summer.
Since “The Ballad Of Richard Jewell” is still in an early production phase, there is currently no German film release.
