Style templates in Word are a useful means of quickly applying uniform formatting to your document. In addition to the templates that are already available, you can also create your own format, for example to design your titles differently. In the following sections you will learn how you can use the formatting templates in Word and also format them yourself.

Use styles

The templates already integrated in Word can be found in the “start“Tab on the left. To use them in your document, select the text to be formatted, then select the appropriate style:

Depending on the format template that you specify, items such as headings are also displayed accordingly in your Word table of contents. An example: the header you use as “Title 2“Have declared” will appear in your table of contents as a subchapter of “Title 1“. Here we will show you how to create an automatic table of contents in Word.

Change existing styles

If you want to change the built-in templates in Word, you have two options: If your document is already formatted, you can change it directly in the document. In this way, the single change is applied to all elements with the same format. If you haven’t entered any text yet, the other option is to make the change manually. You can find out what steps are required for individual options in the following sections:

Change the format directly in the document

You can adapt all the text parts of the same formatting template in just two steps:

1st step:

Mark First, the part of your text whose style you want to change and Format It is according to your wishes. For example with a different font size or type.

Then click on the top menu bar in the format templates area with the Right mouse button in the appropriate template and select “Update (template name) to match your selection“. The corresponding format template adapts to your formatting changes.

Changes to the template catalog

Word saves the formatting templates in what is known as Style Catalog. There you can also adapt the existing templates according to your wishes:

1st step:

Take low “formatting“Go ahead in your customization and check the box”Add to style catalog“. Finally, you can specify if you want to use the template “Only in this document“or”New documents based on this template“I want to create.

For you to be independent ofstart“Tab can access the style catalog, just link it in the toolbar at the top left The right button of the mouse in any style and then select “Add a catalog to the Quick Access Toolbar“:
