Fitbit has been the undisputed king of wearables, closely followed by Apple with its Apple Watch. Now Xiaomi is challenging the American role model and is on top of the world in the latest quarterly figures. The IDC Worldwide Quarterly Wearables Tracker gives a reliable indication that Xiaomi is now the undisputed leader in the field of wearable technology.

6.9 million units sold correspond to a market share of 21.5 percent in the third quarter of 2018. By contrast, Apple manages only 13.1 percent with 4.2 million. The growth rate of more than 90 percent is also notable for Xiaomi and at least 54 percent for Apple. Fitbit loses.

Use OS out of competition

The inexpensive Mi Band 3 now has a much more powerful OLED screen and seems to be enough of a smart companion for a large part of the price-conscious target group. It also works with Android smartphones, which have been known to deny the Apple Watch. As there is hardly a serious competitor in the Android segment, Xiaomi seized the opportunity and offered a cheap alternative. The count continues.

Fitbit did not fare so well with a slight downside, Huawei has been steadily developing with a positive trend, and Samsung is still ahead of the rise. The Galaxy Watch seems to have made the entire product segment more interesting for some customers. Do you have a Xiaomi Mi Band 3 in use?
